STOCKHOLM, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Star skier Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States fought through sickness to claim a record fourth straight slalom vicotry of the World Championships at Are, Sweden on Saturday.

The 23-year-old skiied with a chest cold but improved from the third place after the first run to clock a combined total of one minute 57.05 second for the title.

Local favorite Anna Swenn Larsson was the runner-up at 0.58 seconds and her silver was Sweden's first medal of the worlds. Newly crowned giant slalom gold medalist Petra Vlhova of Slovakia took the bronze at 1.03.

Before Shiffrin, there's no Alpine skier who had won the same discipline at four successive worlds.

It was her second gold won in Are after winning the super-G, while she also took a bronze in the giant slalom.

Now Shiffrin has five world championship golds to draw level with U.S. record holder Ted Ligety.
