NEW YORK, April 29 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. government is set to issue the first tariff refund payment by around May 11, according to an order filed on Tuesday in the U.S. Court of International Trade.

About 21 percent of import entries, which were previously subject to tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), have been accepted for removal of duties through a new Customs and Border Protection process called Consolidated Administration and Processing of Entries (CAPE), said the order.

The judge, who issued the order and is overseeing the refund process, said about 3 percent of IEEPA entries have been liquidated through CAPE and are in the refund stage.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Feb. 20 that U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policies under IEEPA are unconstitutional.

Businesses and individuals paid IEEPA tariffs on approximately 53 million entries, according to information shared earlier by the U.S. government. ■
