ACCRA, April 30 (Xinhua) -- The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) released its annual data on Thursday, announcing that the annual average inflation rate fell to 14.6 percent in 2025, lower than the 22.9 percent recorded a year earlier.

Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu said the sharp decline reflects tangible progress, while underscoring that challenges remain.

"By December, inflation had fallen sharply to 5.4 percent, placing Ghana among the better-performing economies in the sub-region. But the full-year picture is more cautious," Iddrisu stated.

He highlighted, however, that at 14.6 percent, Ghana's annual average inflation remained higher than the Sub-Saharan African regional benchmarks of 12.5 percent, reflecting the impact of earlier high inflation in the country.

Ghana's rate is, however, lower than the West African subregional average of 17.7 percent and higher than the 12.3 percent for the West Africa Monetary Zone, a six-member organization, comprising Ghana, Nigeria, the Gambia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia, working toward a second regional currency for West Africa.

"Ghana has moved from crisis-level reduction to the harder task of sustaining low inflation. The gains are real, but they are fragile," said Francis Mensah, head of economic statistics at the GSS.
