TRIPOLI, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Libya's internationally recognized Government of National Unity (GNU) on Thursday announced a cabinet reshuffle affecting 13 ministries, aimed at filling vacancies and boosting executive performance.

The move followed a joint statement by Presidential Council head Mohamed Al-Menfi, High Council of State head Mohamed Takala, and Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah at government headquarters in Tripoli. The statement expressed support for the prime minister's measures to reorganize the cabinet and fill vacant posts.

This unified front marks a reversal from earlier in March, when Al-Menfi publicly rejected the reshuffle, labeling Dbeibah's administration a "caretaker government" with limited authority to reorganize.

In a live broadcast on the "Hukumatuna" platform, Al-Menfi and Takala praised Dbeibah for responding to national and institutional observations, saying the changes aim to maintain continuity of state institutions and improve government efficiency.

The reshuffle includes the ministries of Economy, Health, and State for Migrant Affairs, among others. Dbeibah said the changes are intended to enhance administrative stability and financial governance, and stressed that his government will continue its work until Libya's electoral process is completed.

Since the 2011 fall of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has been divided between the Tripoli-based GNU led by Dbeibah and an eastern administration appointed by the House of Representatives and headed by Osama Hammad. The Libyan High National Elections Commission said late last year that presidential elections are scheduled for April 2026. ■
