BEIRUT, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon killed at least four people and injured several others on Thursday, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA).
Three people were killed and several others wounded when an Israeli airstrike hit the town of Barish in southern Lebanon's Tyre district, NNA reported. The injured, with varying degrees of wounds, were transferred to hospitals in the coastal city of Tyre for treatment.
In a separate strike, an Israeli drone targeted a vehicle in the municipality of Deir Antar in the Bint Jbeil district, killing one person, the agency said.
Additional strikes targeted the municipality of Yater, while another raid hit the area between the border village of Alma al-Shaab in the Tyre district and the municipality of Naqoura, which hosts the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
In eastern Lebanon, an Israeli drone conducted what NNA described as a warning strike in the village of Douris, located near the city of Baalbek in the Bekaa Valley, following low-altitude flights by Israeli warplanes.
Meanwhile, Lebanese health authorities report that the death toll from Israeli strikes has risen to 687 since the outbreak of cross-border fighting.
In a statement, UNIFIL said its forces observed the launch of more than 120 projectiles from Lebanese territory toward Israel, as well as seven Israeli airstrikes and more than 120 artillery shelling incidents in response.
It said such actions constitute serious violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and warned that the escalation has caused widespread destruction and displacement across the border areas.
On March 2, Hezbollah announced the launch of rockets from Lebanon toward Israel for the first time since a ceasefire that took effect on Nov. 27, 2024.
In response, the Israeli army launched what it described as an "offensive military campaign" against Hezbollah, carrying out intense airstrikes on multiple Lebanese areas and border ground incursions. ■
