BEIRUT, March 12 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 people were killed and 32 injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting areas in and around the Lebanese capital early Thursday, said Lebanon's health ministry.
An Israeli airstrike on the Ramlet al-Baida area in Beirut killed eight people and wounded 31 others, the ministry said in a statement. The strike marked the third Israeli attack on Beirut since the escalation of tensions.
Lebanon's National News Agency reported that the strike hit a vehicle during low-altitude flights by Israeli drones over the area.
Meanwhile, Israeli raids on the town of Aramoun, southeast of Beirut, killed three people and injured a child, according to a preliminary toll issued by the ministry's emergency operations center.
On March 2, Hezbollah claimed firing of rockets from Lebanon toward Israel for the first time since a ceasefire was declared on Nov. 27, 2024, prompting the Lebanese government to announce a ban on the group's security and military activities.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army launched what it described as an "offensive military campaign" against Hezbollah, conducting intense airstrikes on multiple Lebanese areas and ground incursions. ■
