BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday criticized Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for once again challenging the one-China principle and distorting history and international law.

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a regular press conference that the DPP was using the invalid San Francisco Peace Treaty to recycle its secessionist narrative in an attempt to mislead the public and challenge the internationally recognized one-China principle.

A series of international legal documents, including the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation, clearly affirm China's sovereignty over Taiwan, Chen said.

The replacement of the Republic of China by the People's Republic of China constituted a change in government rather than a change in China's status as a subject of international law, he added, indicating that Taiwan's status as part of China remains unchanged.

The so-called San Francisco Peace Treaty, reached without China's participation, had no authority to determine Taiwan's status or any other matters involving China's sovereign rights and territory, Chen said.

China, he noted, declared from the outset that it would never recognize the treaty. ■
